Penicillin and streptomycin are broad spectrum bacteriostatic and bacteriocidal agents effective against Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria. Amphotericin B is an antifungal agent effective against fungi and yeasts. Penicillin acts by inhibiting cell wall synthesis. Streptomycin blocks the initiation complex of protein synthesis by binding to the 30S subunit of bacterial 70S ribosome, thus interfering with the protein synthesis. Amphotericin B interferes with the cell membrane permeability of sensitive fungi and yeasts by forming channels and causing leakage of low molecular weight substances.
A002 is a sterile filtered solution formulated to contain 10,000 units penicillin, 10mg streptomycin sulfate and 25µg amphotericin B per ml.
